Insurance and Payment
My rates reflect the time we spend together as well as the years of advanced training I bring, including certifications and specialty therapies. I also recognize that financial circumstances vary. To increase accessibility I reserve a number of sliding scale slots at reduced rates based on household income. For clients using insurance, your cost is determined by your plan. For individuals using out-of-network insurance benefits, I provide superbills for reimbursement and partner with Thrizer. Therapy is an investment in your well-being. Choosing to work together means choosing highly specialized care tailored to your needs. Please contact the office for the most current rates for private pay.
In Network Insurance for intake and sessions up to 60 minutes.
In Network Insurance plans accepted at my office:
Anthem
Blue Cross and Blue Shield
United Behavioral Health/Optum
Aetna
Out of Network Insurance:
Once you have clarified your insurance coverage, I can provide you with a receipt (super bill) that you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. The percentage of my private pay rate and time frame of the return, depends on your policy and coverage within your insurance company. Commonly 60%-90% of the fee can be reimburse to you. Sliding scale does not apply to out of network insurance coverage.
Another option is utilizing Thrizer, a third party company that checks OON benefits and does the billing on your behalf. When using Thrizer you no longer have to wait for reimbursement. You will only pay the remaining amount and the fee for Thrizer's service.
Private Pay:
Please use the contact form below for more information about current private pay rates and possible sliding scale options.
**Performance Counseling Sessions are private pay and insurance is not accepted unless medical necessity determined through assessment during intake.
Payment Accepted:
Health Savings Account (HSA), Checks, All Major Credit Cards, Cash.
Good Faith Estimate:
If you choose to pay privately, in compliance with the No Surpirses Act (HR 133), you have the right to ask for and receive a "Good Faith Estimate". This is an estimate of how much therapy will cost prior to any services, and also upon request. It will include per session rate, codes and services, and the maximum estimate up to 12 months. The total cost of treatment depends on a number of factors including, the session fee, frequency of sessions and duration of treatment, which varies with each individual client. These factors will be discussed and collaborated on in session and you have the right to end therapy at any time. If you have a bill that is at least $400 more than the estimate, you can dispute the bill. For questions or more information please visit:
Frequently Asked Questions:
1.
What happens in the first session?
The first time you attend therapy I will have some questions for you in hopes of getting to know you and informing you of office practices, informed consent and confidentiality rights. There will be some forms to sign. There is no pressure to share anything you are not comfortable with. It's a space to get a feel for how we can work together.
2.
How is ART different from EMDR and how will I know which is best for me?
ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) both help process distressing memories, but they do it in different ways. EMDR follows a structured, step by step protocol to guide the brain in reprocessing difficult experiences. ART is more directive and visual, focusing on replacing upsetting images with positive ones through guided imagery and eye movements. Which approach is right for you depends on your goals, comfort level, and how you respond to the interventions. During the initial intake we can discuss and discover which approach may best fit your individual needs and continue to assess and adjust if necessary throughout your therapy.
3.
What is Brainspotting and how can it help me?
Brainspotting is a gentle, intuitive approach that helps you access and release trauma. By focusing on specific eye positions and bodily sensations, it allows your mind and nervous system to process experiences naturally, often with little or no talking, helping you feel calmer, more balanced and able to move forward. Brainspotting can also be used for creativity and performance expansion.
4.
What happens in Exposure and Response Prevention therapy?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is considered the Gold Standard therapy for OCD and anxiety issues. It works by gradually helping you face anxiety provoking thoughts, situations, and sensations while resisting compulsions, avoidance or safety behaviors. Overtime the brain learns that anxiety is uncomfortable but not dangerous, allowing fear to lose its power and confidence to grow. ERP is collaborative, carefully paced, and focused on building real world resilience.
5.
How can therapy help my nervous system?
Your nervous system plays a huge role in how you think, feel, and respond to stress. In our work, we don't just talk about what's happening, we pay attention to what your body is experiencing. We will incorporate somatic tools and neurobiological attunement to help you build emotional regulation within yourself and how you relate and experience others.
6.
Do I need to be struggling to come to Performance Counseling?
Some people come in because they are feeling stuck or burned out in their sport, craft or work life. Others simply want to understand their nervous system better, build emotional regulation skills, or stay grounded under the intense stress of high performance. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit. It can be used to gain more tools, enhance creativity and flow state, as well as support your overall well being.
7.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Progress looks different for everyone. You may be less reactive, having less anxious thoughts, or feeling more connected to yourself. We will check in regularly to make sure you are getting what you need from the process.
8.
Can I do therapy sessions via Telehealth.
Yes, if you are located in the state of Connecticut at the time of the session, Telehealth is available and fully supported for your convenience and comfort. Telehealth can be utilized on an impromptu basis for hazardous driving conditions, childcare issues, or a busy schedule where Telehealth fits better that day.
9.
How long are sessions and how often do we meet?
The session length will be discussed during the initial intake. I offer sessions for 55 minutes & 90 minutes as well as intensives which are extended sessions and can last for 3-6 hours (with breaks).
Some people come to therapy weekly, others bi-weekly, and some come for focused intensives. We will figure out the pace that feels manageable and fits your specific needs.
10.
Do you take insurance?
At this time my office accepts Anthem BC/BS and Aetna. Insurance will typically cover intakes and sessions up to 55-60 minutes for medically necessary issues such as anxiety, traumatic stress, and addiction to name a few.
For any insurance companies that I am out of network with, I can provide a "Superbill" for you to send to your insurance. This may provide a reimbursement to you based on your specific plan. I also use Thrizer to help you access your out-of-network benefits up front, for a small service fee, eliminating the wait for reimbursement.
11.
I don't know where to start, I just know I don't feel like myself. Can I still come to therapy?
Absolutely. You don't need to have all of the answers, or even words. Your willingness to show up for yourself and be open to a change is all that you need to come to therapy with.
